In the past, many athletes have avoided yoga because they believed it to be too easy, too hard or simply not compatible with their training. But times are changing and more and more athletes are crediting yoga for improving their overall strength, efficiency and power.
The truth is that yoga’s focus on the fundamentals of form, concentration and breath awareness are equally valuable and easily translatable to sports. In this 4-week series, we’ll work with poses that:
- increase joint range of motion and flexibility;
- develop sport-specific core strength;
- improve balance and stability;
- lower the risk of overuse injuries; and
- reduce recovery time.You’ll also learn breath and meditation exercises that cultivate mental toughness and mind-body integration to improve your physical and mental endurance.Join ultra-marathoner, triathlete, coach and Thrive Yoga teacher, Alison, and learn how yoga can compliment your training and improve your athletic performance.
This series is suitable for all types of athletes at any level of experience — including those just getting started, weekend warriors, recreational and competitive athletes. No prior yoga experience required.
March 26, 2017 from 2:00-4:00PM – Flight School: Arm Balancing 101 – Sage Yoga
In this playful all-levels workshop, we’ll explore the fundamentals of arm balancing, learn how to build a solid foundation for flight and refine your body intelligence for a more effortless lift-off. Alison will guide you through a series of preparatory poses, drills and and breath work to help develop your strength and confidence before working on Crow Pose (Bakasana), Side Crow (Parivrtta Bakasana) and Eight-Angle Pose (Astavakrasana).
These fun poses will challenge you to be fully present as you expand and evolve. Come play and learn the art of weightlessness!
April 23, 2017 from 2:00-4:00PM – Flight School: Inversions 101 – Sage Yoga
Flip your perspective! Join Alison for an afternoon of letting go of fears and putting your heart over your head.
This workshop will being with an invigorating flow that includes some drills to help build body awareness, core engagement and shoulder stability. We’ll use the wall and other props to work on developing your Handstand (Adho Mukha Vrksasana) and Forearm Balance (Pincha Mayurasana). For those ready to invert away from the wall, we’ll also offer some fun variations to play with.
Come play with these fun and energizing poses and learn about the benefits of incorporating inversions into your practice.

Looking to grow and expand your arm balance and/or inversion practice? When it comes to flying, strength is the key to confidence.
Join Alison for this 4-week series full of specialized drills and simple hacks that you can incorporate into your regular practice to build the strength and integration necessary for taking off confidently into arm balances and inversions.
Each class will include a warm-up flow, targeted breath work, specific drills designed to activate and strengthen all the right muscles, along with in-depth alignment instruction. Plus, you’ll even get time at the end of each class to play independently and explore any arm balances or inversions you’d like with Alison standing close by to offer in-flight assistance and support to help your grow your practice.

Join us to bow towards the setting sun on this first day of summer. Surya Namaskar A, the Sun Salutation, opens the spine and promotes the flow of energy through the channels of the body. Linked together in 108 rounds with the breath, this moving meditation will challenge, inspire, invigorate, and exhaust. Join us for a compassionate practice with modifications and assists, and fill your body with the heat of the sun!
